House Painting
Whether you are painting, a good prep job goes a long way toward a great paint job.
Use a garden hose or a power pressure washer to clean off dirt and debris.
Spend time sanding down and repairing chipped or cracked wood.
Check window sills and doorjambs for holes and cracks. Be sure to fill in these areas with caulking. Make sure everything is sealed off properly.
If you are painting trim a different color than the house, be sure to mask it off with painter's tape and masking paper.
Inspect the exterior of your home thoroughly, looking for areas that might have termite infestations, bee or wasp nests, or bird nests. Common sense would tell you to remove these elements before proceeding with the paint job to avoid hazards like getting stung. Also, if your home has termites, you may need to get it tented, which would be a precursor to painting.
Above all, discuss your paint color and style choices in detail with your spouse. You want to make sure that both of you are on the same page and know what to expect. A surprise in this area may prove to do more harm than good!
Interior Painting - Decorative Wall Painting Techniques
Sponging, Stenciling or Stamping, and Ragging are simple techniques
that anyone can use to successfully brighten and transform a dull room.
Completely paint your base coat and let it dry completely. To sponge
or rag a wall, dip either one into a lighter paint color and apply over
the base coat to achieve the desired effect. You will lightly stamp
a sponge or drag the rag across the wall. To use a stencil or stamp,
create a simple design and repeatedly stencil it across your base coat
until you achieve the desired effect. For more on stenciling you should
check out this stencil related site and read the tutorials --> Stencil
